Paragraph about the setting ... focusing on the human form ...
The Embrace, 1990Ballpoint on PaperThis is one of my most intimate drawings. To answer the question people most often ask about this piece, no, this is not an interracial couple. I was just timid drawing the male body and so I 'carved' him out of the space gradually (as you can see if you look at his arm). |

Bathing Suit, 1990 or 1991 (?)Ballpoint on PaperThis is a bathing suit that, believe it or not, I actually constructed, though never wore out of the house. It would be terribly impractical for actual use as the top isn't secured very well. Note the confidence in drawing the head/torso and the relative lack of skill in drawing the legs. Compare these with the next piece. |
Moonlight Moment, 1991Colored Pencil on PaperThis is a further exploration of the female form. In comparison to the previous piece, note the more natural shape of the legs and the more natural position of the shoulder. When I went to have the original piece matted and framed, the shop accidentally made two sets of mats. Ever since then I've been intending to make a companion piece with a nude reclining on a chaise lounge but I've never gotten around to it. |

Eve, 1992Porous-Point Pen on PaperI drew this while spending a weekend at a youth hostel in Brunswick, Georgia, with a friend named Wendy. We used to joke that we were the 'weather girls' (Sunny and Wendy) and that we were both restauranteurs (Sonny's BBQ and Wendy's). |
