====== email snippet (March 2005) =======

I have a regular Noah's ark of pets now ... AnonymousB is allergic so I can't have any of them in the house ... I started putting food out for the birds and I like to sit and watch them from the dining table.

Some of them have names, like Cardinal Richelou and Laura Bush (the cardinal's first lady) ... There's a younger cardinal I named Riker (STTNG), being "Number One" and all.

I have a squirrel who loves the free food. I called him Rocky (the flying squirrel) until I saw that it's more of a Roxy (she has teats). One day after totally binging on the birdfood, Roxy sort of stretched out like a splatted, dead squirrel in some sort of worship to the food bowl. It was kinda strange.

Well ...

Then I kept seeing this black kitty so I put a reflective collar on him with the message: "Do I have a name?" and my email address. This cat has the sweetest deal, getting loved and fed on more than 5 patios! The person who first fed the cat named him Sammy and that's fine.

Then I started seeing this gray cat I call Ghost. He(she?) is incredibly timid and won't even let me within 20 feet. I think he may be old.

So I bought and put out cat food ... and then I sat there one night and saw a possum at the bowl. So of course I named him George Jones (the 'ol possum, himself).

Not long after that, a racoon came and fouled the water washing his hands and eating the cat food. Then he did this weird thing: he went over to the birdfood and dumped it out all over the place. Later I realized that he had picked out all the sunflower seeds. I haven't really hooked him up with a name yet, but maybe it will be Pig Pen.

LATER ...

There's now two racoons that come for dinner each night -- with their little masks I call them Dos Banditos (the two bandits).

I've seen a fox eating the cat food but no photo of him ... yet.
